6 errores que comete todo viajero novato (y cómo evitarlos)

Por Priya Devan — Consejos y planificación de viajes

These first-time traveler mistakes show up on nearly every first big trip, and they’re almost all avoidable once you know to check for them ahead of time.

1. Planificar en exceso cada hora

A packed itinerary looks productive on paper and exhausting in practice. Leave real gaps — the best parts of a trip are often unplanned, and a rigid schedule leaves no room for them.

2. Hacer las maletas para una versión del viaje que no vas a hacer

Packing hiking boots for a city trip, or five outfit changes for a backpacking route, is one of the most common first-time traveler mistakes. Pack for the actual days planned, not an idealized version of the trip you imagined while booking it.

3. No informar al banco de que te vas de viaje

A frozen card on day one of a trip is a completely avoidable problem. A two-minute call or app notification before you leave prevents it, and most banks now let you do this entirely within their app.

4. Subestimar los efectos del jet lag el primer día

Scheduling anything demanding on arrival day sets the whole trip off on the wrong foot. Keep day one light no matter how excited you are — a slow first day almost always pays for itself by day two.

5. No guardar copias sin conexión de nada

Booking confirmations, maps, addresses in the local language — save them offline before you land. Wifi and signal aren’t guaranteed the moment you need them most, and airport arrivals halls are a common dead zone.

6. Not checking passport validity rules before booking

A surprising number of countries won’t let you enter, or won’t let you board the flight at all, if your passport expires within six months of your travel dates — even if it’s technically still valid on paper. This catches first-time travelers off guard more than almost anything else on this list, since the passport itself looks perfectly fine at a glance. CIBT has a solid country-by-country breakdown if you want to check your specific destination before you book anything.
